A polymer of olefins (vinyl compounds) with a low degree of polymerization that has reactive groups at the ends of the molecule. For example, when the polymerization reaction of ethylene _CH2 = _CH2 is carried out in the presence of a relatively large amount of carbon tetrachloride _CCl4 , the following reaction occurs, producing ethylene telomers with reactive groups at both ends. Telomers can be used as starting materials for the production of various useful substances by utilizing the reactive groups at the ends. [Inoue Shohei]
