Dukars

Japanese:
Dukars
French composer. Also known as Dukas. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire in his hometown, and after composing Symphony in C major (1896) and other works, he established his position as a composer with the symphonic scherzo The Sorcerer's Apprentice (1897). He later nurtured many talented composers at his alma mater and the École Normale, and also worked as a critic. All of his works showed intricate compositional skills, and he was known as a master of orchestration, but he was strict with himself, and most of his works were discarded in his later years. His major works include the Piano Sonata (1901) and piano piece Variations, Intermezzo and Finale on a Theme by Rameau (1902), both of which were born from his devotion to Beethoven, the opera Ariane et Bluebeard (1906) based on the original story and libretto by Maeterlinck, and the ballet music La Péri (1911-1912). His masterful writing style and rich sense of harmony have had a wide influence on Debussy, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, and others. → Falla/Messiaen → Related topics Albéniz | Ballade | Piston | Lipatti | Rodrigo
