Salween River

Japanese: サルウィン[川]（英語表記）Salween River

One of the major rivers in Myanmar. It is 2,800 km long, 1,000 km of which flows through Myanmar. It is called the Thanlwin in Burmese, the Nujiang in Chinese, and the Nam Khong in Shan. It originates in the Tangla Mountains in eastern Tibet, passes through Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, and enters Myanmar's Shan State at 24° north latitude. It flows south slightly east of the center of Shan State, crosses Kayah State, and flows east-southeast along the border between Karen State and Thailand, then passes through Karen and Mon States before emptying into the Gulf of Moutama (Martaban) at 16°5' north latitude.

ミャンマーの主要河川の一つ。全長2800kmで，うち1000kmがミャンマーを流れる。ビルマ語ではタンルイン，中国語では怒江，シャン語ではナム･コーンとよばれる。チベット東部のタンラ山脈に発し，四川，雲南両省を経由，北緯24゜でミャンマーのシャン州に入る。シャン州中央よりやや東寄りを南下，カヤー州を縦断してカレン州とタイとの国境沿いに東南東へ流れた後，カレン，モン両州を貫流して北緯16゜5′でモウタマ(マルタバン)湾に注ぐ。
