[Died] October 6, 1993, New York American dancer and choreographer. After studying under M. Rambert and other dancers, he started out as a choreographer. He created Black Rites (1940), Rodeo (42), and Mountain Wind (65) for the Ballet Theater and other venues. He also choreographed musicals such as Oklahoma! (43) and Brigadoon (47), and worked on films such as Romeo and Juliet (36) and Oklahoma! (55). In 1973, he founded Heritage Dance Theater based at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Her books include Dance to the Piper (52), To a Young Dancer (62), The Book of the Dance (63), and American Dance (81).

[Died] January 21, 1959. Los Angeles, California. American film director and producer. Full name Cecil Blount DeMille. In 1913, he founded a film company (later Paramount Pictures) with Jesse L. Lasky and Samuel Goldwyn. He made his directorial debut with The Squaw Man (released in 1914). After that, he worked on spectacle films as a senior director and producer for Paramount Pictures. His major works include The Ten Commandments (1923, 1956) and The Greatest Show on Earth (1952, Academy Award for Best Picture).
