A moth of the family Saturniidae in the order Lepidoptera, also known as Fusan (maple silkworm). It is a relatively large, light brown moth with a forewing span of about 90 mm, and is found in southern China, Hainan Island, Vietnam, India, and other areas. It emerges once a year, developing as a larva from March to May, spending summer and autumn in the pupal stage, and becoming an adult from December to January of the following year, mating and laying eggs. The larvae feed on the leaves of maples, camphor trees, willows, and other trees. Silk thread can be made from the silk glands of the larvae, so they are kept in captivity in some areas.

鱗翅（りんし）目ヤママユガ科のガで，フウサン(楓蚕)ともいう。前翅の開張約90mmの比較的大型の淡褐色をしたガで，中国南部，海南島，ベトナム，インドなどに分布する。年1回発生し，3月から5月に幼虫として成育し，夏秋は蛹態（ようたい）で過ごし，12月から翌年1月にかけて成虫となり交尾･産卵する。幼虫はフウ(楓)，クスノキ(樟)，ヤナギ(柳)などの葉を食べる。幼虫の絹糸腺からてぐす糸を作ることができるため，一部地域では飼育されている。
