An electronic circuit that performs logical operations, mutual conversion, transmission, storage, etc. of digitally represented electrical signals, and is called this in contrast to analog circuits. It uses elements or elementary circuits that can take multiple distinguishable physical states to represent and process information in those physical states. Although binary digital circuits based on the binary system, which uses two potentials (high and low), the presence or absence of electric current, the presence or absence of a pulse, the opening and closing of contacts, etc., are common as multiple physical states, digital circuits based on n- ary elements (ternary or higher) are also being researched.

ディジタル表現された電気信号の論理演算，相互変換，伝達，蓄積などを行う電子回路のことで，アナログ回路と対比してこのように呼ばれる。区別可能な複数個の物理的状態をとる素子または素回路を使用して，その物理的状態で情報を表現，処理する。複数個の物理的状態として，例えば高低二つの電位，電流の有無，パルスの有無，接点の開閉などを利用した二進法を基本としたバイナリーなディジタル回路が一般的であるが，三進法以上のn進的素子を基本としたディジタル回路も研究されている。
