One of the Japanese calendars. It was compiled in 1797 (Kansei 9) during the Edo period, and calendars compiled using this calendar are also called by this name. It replaced the previous Horeki calendar and was used from 1798 until the establishment of the Tenpo calendar in 1842 (Tenpo 13). By order of the shogunate, Takahashi Yoshitoki, Yamaji Tokufu, Yoshida Hidenori, Okumura Kunitoshi, and Hazama Shigetomi participated in the work. In terms of content, it adopted Kepler's theory of elliptical motion for the sun and moon based on the second part of the Chinese Rekisho Kosei, and incorporated Asada Goryu's method of rise and fall. It was a groundbreaking calendar in that it indirectly adopted the results of Western astronomy. However, the epicycle theory was used for the five planets Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, and Mercury.
