Zheng; Chêng

Zheng; Chêng
One of the princely states of the Zhou dynasty in China (806-375 BC). Family name: Ji. It began when Duke Huan, son of King Li of Zhou, was appointed to Zheng (Shaanxi Province) in the 22nd year of King Xuan's reign (806 BC) by his brother King Xuan. Duke Huan was killed by the Qianrong along with King You of Zhou, but his son Duke Wu moved east with King Ping to Xinzheng (Henan Province) as a vassal of Zhou. It flourished during the reign of Duke Zhuang in the late 8th century BC, oppressing the Zhou royal family. Later, during the Prince's Rebellion in the 7th year of Duke Li (673 BC), it even rescued the Zhou king. In addition to being in fierce conflict with the neighboring Song, it was oppressed by both Jin and Chu as they repeatedly clashed, forcing it into a difficult situation. In the late Spring and Autumn period, Duke Jian used Zichan to reform various systems, handle disputes among the country's nobles, and skillfully eliminate oppression from the countries of Jin and Chu in diplomacy, thereby successfully preserving the country. However, after Zichan's death, the country fell into disuse and was constantly invaded by Jin and Han, until it was destroyed by Hou Ai of Han in the 21st year of Duke Kang's reign (375 BC).
