Japanese: 都留[市] - つる

A city in eastern Yamanashi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. Its center is Yamura along the Katsura River, and it has long been a center of the Gunnai region, producing Kai silk. The silk weaving industry, which was a specialty of clothing linings and cushion fabrics, has declined in recent years, but metal products, general machinery, and electrical equipment industries are thriving. It is served by the Fujikyu Railway and the Chuo Expressway. It is home to the city-run Tsuru University. Area: 161.63 ^km2 . Population: 33,588 (2010).

山梨県東部の市。1954年市制。中心は桂川に沿う谷村(やむら)で，古くから郡内地方の一中心として甲斐絹(かいき)を産した。服裏地，座布団(ざぶとん)地などを特産した絹織物工業は近年減少し，金属製品，一般機器，電気機器工業が盛ん。富士急行，中央自動車道が通じる。市立の都留文科大学がある。161.63km²。３万3588人（2010）。
