Okura [village] - Okura

Japanese: 大蔵[村] - おおくら

A village in Mogami District, northern Yamagata Prefecture. The village stretches from north to south, with the Dozan River and Akamatsu River flowing north and joining the Mogami River in the northern part of the village. It is known as one of the snowiest areas in Japan, and National Route 458, which runs north to south, is closed in the winter around Jubuichi Pass in the south, which borders Sagae City. Most of the area is covered by forests, except for the Mogami River basin. Hayama is in the southeast, and Gassan is in the southwest, with Hijiori at the foot of the mountain being one of the trailheads for Gassan. Hijiori is also famous for its high-quality hot springs, and is well-known for the morning market that takes place every morning in this hot spring town that retains the atmosphere of a hot spring resort. 211.63 ^km2 . 3,762 people (2010).

山形県北部，最上郡の村。村は南北に長く，銅山川と赤松川がそれぞれ北流しており，村の北部を流れる最上川に合流している。日本でも有数の豪雪地帯として知られ，南北に走る国道458号も寒河江市との境にある南部の十部一峠前後が冬季閉鎖となる。最上川流域以外は大半を山林が占め，南東部に葉山，南西部には月山(がっさん)があり，麓の肘折(ひじおり)は月山の登山口の一つとなっている。また肘折はこけしの産地でもあり，良質な温泉の湧くことでも有名で，湯治場の雰囲気を色濃く残す温泉街で毎朝行われる朝市がよく知られている。211.63km²。3762人（2010）。
