A fungus of the Chytridiomycetes class of flagellated fungi. It is commonly found in water, growing on rotting matter, but some live a parasitic lifestyle. It is generally poorly developed, and many are single-celled and spherical. In a typical example, when a spherical cell matures, it produces a swimming cell (zoospore) with a motile flagellum inside, which then swims out and settles on a new location, discarding the flagellum and gradually swelling up, returning to its original single-celled form. The rust chytrid fungus (rust chytrid fungus) parasitizes evening primrose. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
