A city facing Tsukumi Bay in the eastern part of Oita Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1951. It has an abundant limestone vein, and in 1916 the Nippō Main Line was opened. In 1919 a cement factory was established and large-scale mining began. The city center developed as a cement industrial city with the development of Tsukumi Port, and cement is imported and exported. Mandarin orange cultivation is popular in the surrounding area, and in recent years, flowers such as baby's breath have also been cultivated. Coastal fishing for horse mackerel and mackerel, and inshore tuna fishing are also thriving. The Tsukumi Bay area is a beautiful ria coast and is part of the Nippō Coast Quasi-National Park. The Higashi Kyushu Expressway opened in December 2001. 79.48 km ² . Population 19,917 (2010).

大分県東部，津久見湾に面する市。1951年市制。豊富な石灰岩脈があり，1916年日豊本線開通，1919年セメント工場設置後大規模な採掘が始まり，中心市街は津久見港の整備とあいまってセメント工業都市として発展，セメントを移輸出する。周辺ではミカン栽培が盛んで，近年はカスミソウなどの花卉(かき)栽培も行われる。アジ，サバなどの沿岸漁業，近海マグロ漁業も盛ん。津久見湾一帯は美しいリアス海岸で，日豊海岸国定公園に属する。2001年12月，東九州自動車道が開通。79.48km²。１万9917人（2010）。
