Itayagai (Itayagai) - Itayagai (English spelling) scallop

Japanese: イタヤガイ(板屋貝) - イタヤガイ(英語表記)scallop
Itayagai (Itayagai) - Itayagai (English spelling) scallop
An edible bivalve mollusks of the Pectinidae family with an open, fan-shaped shell (illustration). Commonly known as a scallop, the true scallop is a different species found in the Tohoku region and Hokkaido. The shell is 12 cm long, 10.5 cm high, and 3.5 cm bulge; in most individuals, the left shell is flat and brown, while the right shell is well bulged and white. There are 8 to 12 wide, low radial ribs. The interlocking of the two shells is straight and long. When young scallops grow, they live freely without being attached to local objects by byssus, and swim by opening and closing their shells vigorously in a jumping manner. There is one large white adductor muscle (adducal muscle) located almost in the center of the body, and it is edible.
