Japanese: 陳望道 - ちんぼうどう（英語表記）Chén Wàng dào

1890‐1977
Chinese scholar and politician. A native of Jinhua County, Zhejiang Province. In 1919, he translated the Communist Manifesto for the first time in China (signed by Chen Fotu). He studied literature and sociology at Waseda University and Toyo University in Japan, and after returning to China, he edited the Republic Daily and New Youth, among other publications, and served as head of the Chinese literature department at Fudan University. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as president of Fudan University, a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic League, a Shanghai representative to the National People's Congress, and a member of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences at the Academy of Sciences. In addition to his work on rhetoric, The Study of Rhetoric, his translations include Outline of the Study of Social Consciousness and An Introduction to Art.

中国の学者，政治家。浙江省金華県人。1919年中国で初めて《共産党宣言》を翻訳した(署名陳仏突)。日本の早稲田大学，東洋大学で文学，社会学を学び，帰国後《民国日報》《新青年》などを編集，復旦大学中国文学系主任などを経て，新中国成立後，復旦大学校長，民主同盟中央委員，全国人民代表大会上海代表，科学院哲学社会科学部委員などを歴任した。修辞学における業績《修辞学発凡》のほか，訳書に《社会意識学大綱》《美術概論》などがある。
