A member of the green algae Zygophyceae family. A freshwater microalga. Each cell is made up of two hemispheres, upper and lower, like Desmids, but they form many strong, linked threads and live a floating life. Several species are known in Japan. 緑藻類接合藻類ツヅミモ科。淡水産の微小の藻類。細胞のひとつひとつはツヅミモ (鼓藻)などと同様，上下の2半球からできているが，多数強靭な連鎖糸となって浮遊生活をしている。日本では数種が知られている。 (→デスミッド )
