Zhang Pǔ (English spelling)

A Chinese literary figure in the late Ming Dynasty. His pen name was Tianru, and he was from Taicang, Jiangsu. He was a Jinshi (official scholar) in the 4th year of the Chongzhen era (1631). Together with his fellow townsman Zhang Cai, they were known as the "Two of Loudong." They became the leaders of the Fushe literary society, which included notables from all over the country, and many of its members passed the imperial examinations. Despite his lowly status as a common scholar, he had enough influence to influence the political world at the time. He was hated by those in power for his forceful intervention in politics, and was accused of illegality, but he died soon after. It is also said that he was assassinated.

中国，明末の文人。字は天如，江蘇太倉の人。崇禎4年(1631)の進士。同郷の張采（ちようさい）とともに〈婁東（ろうとう）の二張〉と称され，天下の名士を網羅した文学結社〈復社〉の盟主となり，その中から多くの科挙合格者を出し，庶吉士という低い地位でありながら，当時の政界を左右するほどの勢力があった。強引な政治への介入によって権力者に憎まれ，その不法を告発されたが，まもなく死んだ。暗殺されたともいわれる。
