Intestinal antiseptic

Japanese: 腸内殺菌剤 - ちょうないさっきんざい（英語表記）intestinal antiseptic

A drug administered for the purpose of sterilization or preservation in cases of infectious diarrhea or abnormal intestinal fermentation. Its purpose is to have a localized bactericidal effect on infectious microorganisms in the intestine, and it is desirable for it to have as little effect (toxicity) as possible on the host (human), so the condition is that the drug must be difficult to absorb from the small intestine. In the past, topical disinfectants that met these conditions were used. These include phenolic compounds (creosote, etc.), acridine preparations (acrinol, etc.), and quinoline preparations (quinoform, etc.).

感染性下痢または腸内異常発酵の際に，殺菌または防腐の目的で投与する薬物のこと。腸内の感染微生物に対して局所的に殺菌作用を及ぼすことを目的としており，宿主(ヒト)に対してはできる限り作用(毒性)を及ぼさないのが望ましいので，小腸から吸収されにくい薬物であることが条件となる。古くは外用殺菌剤のうち，これらの条件に沿ったものが用いられた。フェノール化合物(クレオソートなど)，アクリジン製剤(アクリノールなど)，キノリン製剤(キノホルムなど)などである。
