A former town in Date County in northern Fukushima Prefecture. The main settlement developed as a post station and market town, and until the early Taisho period, a market was held on the 3rd and 8th of each month, where habutae silk was traded. There are textile and electrical factories. Silkworm farming, rice paddy farming, dairy farming, etc. were carried out. Incorporated into Fukushima City in July 2008. 21.31 km2 . 6,488 people (2005). 福島県北部,伊達(だて)郡の旧町。主集落は宿駅,市場町として発達,大正初期までは3・8の日に市が開かれ,羽二重の取引が行われた。繊維,電機関連の工場がある。養蚕,水稲,酪農などを行う。2008年7月福島市へ編入。21.31km2。6488人(2005)。
