This is one of the official histories of the Ryukyu Kingdom. In 1701 (Genroku 14), Saitaku compiled most of the work in Chinese based on the Chuzan Seikan, but in 1725 (Kyoho 10), his son Saion made extensive revisions. The former is called Saitaku's version and the latter Saion's version, but generally speaking, Chuzan Seifu refers to Saion's version. Saion's version was continued to be written by historians after that, and consists of 13 volumes in total, with seven supplementary volumes. "Chuzan" is another name for Ryukyu, and "Seifu" means a royal record of the genealogy of the various warriors, and provides an overview of the reigns of successive kings. It is one of the fundamental historical sources for research into Okinawa history. [Takara Kurayoshi] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
