A former town in Kume County, central Okayama Prefecture. Occupying the northeastern part of the Kibi Plateau and the southern part of the Tsuyama Basin, the town cultivates tobacco and raises dairy cows and Japanese beef cattle. The main settlement is Kamenokou along the Tsuyama Line. 岡山県中部,久米郡の旧町。吉備(きび)高原北東部と津山盆地南部を占め,タバコ栽培,乳牛・和牛の飼育が行われる。主集落は津山線に沿う亀甲(かめのこう)。2005年3月久米郡旭町,柵原町と合併し町制,美咲町となる。72.08km2。7369人(2003)。
