A general term for insects belonging to the order Psocoptera (chewing insects). They are closely related to the order Psocoptera. They are small, soft-bodied insects, 0.5 to 10 mm in length. They have a relatively large head with prominent compound eyes, and a particularly large, swollen forehead. They have long, thread-like antennae and biting mouthparts. Their wings are membranous and have few wing veins. Booklice, such as Hemipsocus chloroticus , which also flies into houses, get their name from their habit of landing on paper screens and other surfaces inside the house and rubbing the filing organs on the inside of the bases of their legs to make a sound similar to making tea.
