Japanese: チャダイゴケ

A small but unusual mushroom belonging to the Basidiomycete Gastromycetes order Nidulariaceae family. Its English name is bird's-nest fungus. Take the somewhat large Cyathus striatus Fr. for example. The mushroom is an obscure cup shape, 8-13 mm high and 6-8 mm in diameter, with the outside covered in coarse, burdock-like hairs, brown to dark brown in color, and the inside gray to gray-brown with clear vertical stripes. The mouth of the cup is initially sealed with a white membrane, but this soon breaks away.

担子菌類腹菌類チャダイゴケ目チャダイゴケ科Nidulariaceaeに属する小型だが風変りなキノコをいう。英名はbird’s‐nest fungus。やや大型なスジチャダイゴケCyathus striatus Fr.を例にあげると，キノコは倒円錐形のコップ形，高さ8～13mm，直径6～8mm，外面は粗いささくれ状の毛でおおわれ，褐色～暗褐色，内面は灰色～灰褐色で，縦にならぶ明りょうな筋模様がある。コップの口ははじめ白い膜でとざされるが，まもなくやぶれ去る。
