Gigi (plant) - Gigi

...It has many local names, such as Nirogi in Kochi, Shiba or Shiira in the Ariake Sea, Gekke in Okayama, and Gira in Chiba. It is also called Giigii in Nikijima, Mie Prefecture, and Gigi in Kamo District, Hiroshima Prefecture, because of its habit of making friction sounds using the bones in its mouth. The light-emitting organ surrounds the esophagus in a ring shape, and luminous bacteria live symbiotically inside it, causing it to glow dimly and brightly when viewed from the ventral side.
