…JH Pestalozzi, in particular, pursued deeply the theory and practice of placing importance on intuition prior to the formation of concepts as the basis of educational reform, and the efforts toward reform that followed, known as the “Pestalozzi movement,” were specifically aimed at questioning the nature of intuition teaching. In Japan, the Pestalozzi movement, which had been transmitted to America as “object lesson,” was introduced by American teachers MM Scott and Takamine Hideo, among others, in the early Meiji period, and spread under the name of “shobutsu shikyo.” At that time, there were attempts to establish a special subject called “intuition,” whose content was the observation and thinking itself of things in nature and society, and there was also emphasis on intuition teaching as a methodological principle that would run through the teaching of each subject. …
