Time machine

Time machine
It is also translated as "time machine." It is a fantastical device for visiting the past or future, and first appeared in H.G. Wells' work The Time Machine (1895). However, Wells's work was primarily about critique of civilization, and in that sense, like Mark Twain's A Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889), which deals with non-mechanical time travel, he did not conduct a purely logical analysis of the time machine. Later, some science fiction writers focused on the "time paradox," which is the effect that altering the past has on the future, and the time machine grew into a major theme that plays a part in science fiction literature.

The Time Machine

This was the debut novel by British author H.G. Wells. Published in 1895, it became a pioneer of modern science fiction. Based on the development of non-Euclidean geometry and new theories of space-time, this novella was inspired by the theory that time is also a movable space (fourth dimension), and tells the story of a man who arrives in the future in the year 802701 on a scooter-shaped time machine. In this world, humanity has differentiated into the weak, childlike Eloi and the barbaric subterranean Morlocks, and is on the road to degeneration and extinction. This work, which predicted the dark future of the Earth, coincided with the apocalyptic feeling of the time, and its sharp social satire, such as the fate of urban workers being reflected in the Morlocks operating machines underground, won acclaim.

タイム・マシン【The Time Machine】
