Komatsu stone
〘Noun〙 A type of stone. A pyroxene andesite found along the coast of the Izu Peninsula. There are two types: Honkomatsu, which is gray and fine-grained with few phenocrysts, and Shinkomatsu, which is gray or reddish brown, relatively coarse-grained, and has many phenocrysts. *From Edo to Tokyo (1921) <Yata Soun> 7 "This grave is made of Komatsu stone (Komatsuishi) with a total height of seven feet, with three tiers of pedestals."
