A Carthusian monastery in Pavia, Lombardy, Italy. It was founded in 1396 by G. Visconti, but the unique façade was started by G. Amadeo at the end of the 15th century and continued by B. Briosco in the early 16th century. It is excessively decorated with reliefs and inlays. It represents the apex of the decorative trend seen in northern Italian architecture. It contains an altarpiece by Correggio. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
