Gunung Tambora (English spelling)

Japanese: タンボラ[山]（英語表記）Gunung Tambora

A stratovolcano with a basal diameter of about 40 km, occupying most of the Sanggar Peninsula on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa. It has an elevation of 2,851 m. At the summit there is a crater with a diameter of about 6 km and a depth of about 600 m. The eruption in 1815 is considered the largest ever recorded. The loud explosions that occurred on April 10-12 were heard up to 1,750 km away, and the volcanic ash caused darkness for three days on Madura Island, 500 km away. The summit, which was 3,900 m high, dropped to 2,851 m, and the crater mentioned above was formed. It is estimated that about 30 ^km3 of the mountain disappeared, and the volume of the ejecta was 100-150 ^km3 .
