An old town in Isumi County, southern Chiba Prefecture. Located in the midstream of the Isumi River, with flat land along the coast. Kuniyoshi, the town in the center, has been a market town since early modern times. Rice is the main agricultural production area, and chemical industries using natural gas have expanded into the industry. The Isumi Railway runs through the town. In December 2005, it merged with Ohara Town and Misaki Town in Isumi County to become a city, Isumi City. Area 44.23 km2 . Population 7,982 (2003). 千葉県南部,夷隅郡の旧町。夷隅川中流域にあり,沿岸に平地が開ける。中心の国吉は近世以来の市場町。米作中心の農業を営み,工業では,天然ガスを利用した化学工業などが進出している。いすみ鉄道が通じる。2005年12月,夷隅郡大原町,岬町と合併し市制,いすみ市となる。44.23km2。7982人(2003)。
