Spanish pottery. Meaning "Hispanic-Moorish pottery." In the past, it referred only to lusterware produced in Spain, but today it refers to all tin-glazed pottery produced in the country from the late Middle Ages to the late early modern period. Muslims who lived in the Iberian Peninsula after 712 introduced tin-glazed Islamic pottery to the peninsula, and from the mid-13th century it was imitated in Malaga, Córdoba, Seville, and a little later in Granada in Andalusia. The decoration and shapes of early Hispano-Moresque pottery are therefore strikingly similar to pottery produced in the Orient, such as Rey, Kashan, Nishapur, and Raqqa.
