River Mersey

Japanese: マージー[川]（英語表記）River Mersey

A river that flows west through the western part of England, United Kingdom. In the Middle Ages, it was the border between the kingdoms of Mercia and Northumbria, and until 1974, between the counties of Cheshire and Lancashire. It originates in the Peak District in the southern Pennines, and is formed when the River Goyt and the River Etherow join near Stockport, south of Manchester. It flows through Greater Manchester and Cheshire, and downstream from Warrington, it forms a large estuary (triangular estuary) and flows into the Irish Sea.

イギリス，イングランド西部を西流する川。古英語で〈境界の川〉を意味し，中世にはマーシアとノーサンブリア両王国の国境に，また1974年まではチェシャーとランカシャーの州境となっていた。ペナイン山脈南部のピーク･ディストリクトに源を発するゴイト川とエセロー川がマンチェスター南方のストックポート付近で合流して形成され，グレーター･マンチェスター，チェシャー両州を流れ，ウォリントンから下流は巨大なエスチュアリー(三角江)となってアイリッシュ海へ流入する。
