Akagi [town] - Akagi
An old town in the southwest of Iishi County, central Shimane Prefecture. National Route 54 crosses Akana Pass in the south and extends to Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, making it a key transportation route between the two prefectures. There is little arable land, so beef cattle breeding is popular. There is the Kijima Dam. In January 2005, it merged with Tonbara Town, Iishi County, to become a town, Iinan Town. 117.98 km2 . 3,477 people (2003).

島根県中部，飯石(いいし)郡南西部の旧町。国道54号線が南の赤名(あかな)峠を越えて広島県三次(みよし)市に延び，両県連絡の交通要路をなす。耕地が少なく，肉用牛の飼育が盛ん。来島(きじま)ダムがある。2005年１月飯石郡頓原町と合併し町制，飯南町となる。117.98km2。3477人（2003）。
