Japanese: 多頭飼育 - たとうしいく

Keeping multiple animals. It is not uncommon to keep multiple animals in a home, either together with playmates or in parent-child relationships. It is thought that the animals enjoy this lifestyle. However, keeping an unreasonable number of animals is problematic. Keeping too many animals, beyond the limits of what can be done properly, is becoming a problem in society. This is not just keeping too many animals, but having an abnormal number of animals in poor condition, and is considered "animal collecting" rather than living with animals. This abnormal form of keeping animals not only causes a nuisance to others due to problems such as odors, garbage, and the accumulation of animal waste, but also leads to illness and death of animals due to malnutrition and stress, and goes against the spirit of animal welfare.

複数の動物を飼育すること。遊び相手と一緒に、あるいは親子関係で、複数の動物を家庭内で飼育することは決して珍しくない。動物もそのような生活を楽しむと考えられる。しかしながら、常識を超えた多数の動物の飼育については問題がある。正しい飼育ができる限度を超えた多頭飼育は、社会の中で問題視されるようになっている。これは単なる多頭飼育ではなく、状態の悪い動物たちを尋常ではない数保有することであり、動物との生活ではなく「動物蒐集(しゅうしゅう)」と考えられる。このような異常な飼育形態は、臭いやゴミ、動物の排泄物の蓄積の問題で他人の迷惑になるばかりか、栄養不良やストレスにより動物の病気と死を作り出すことにつながり、動物福祉の精神に反している。
