Chaetognaths - Chaetognaths

In animal taxonomy, this group is a group of animals that make up the Chaetognatha phylum. They are marine plankton, represented by arrow worms. The name Chaetognatha comes from the feeding organs, the mandibles, and was named by the German zoologist Leuckart. Approximately 70 species have been recorded in the oceans of the world, and approximately 30 species have been recorded in the waters around Japan, making this one of the animal phyla with the fewest species. This group first became known academically in 1769, and since then, many researchers have been interested in the systematic position of this group (phylum), and have compared it with taxa that are thought to be closely related through anatomical, developmental, and histological studies, but no conclusion has yet been reached regarding its systematic position.

動物分類学上、一門Chaetognathaを構成する動物群。ヤムシ類で代表される海洋プランクトンである。毛顎動物という分類群の名称は、摂餌(せつじ)器官である顎毛に由来するもので、ドイツの動物学者ロイカルトが名づけたものである。全世界の海から約70種、日本近海からは約30種が記録されており、種数の少ない動物門の一つである。この動物群が学問的に知られるようになったのは1769年で、それ以来、現在に至るまでこの動物群（門）の系統的位置には多くの研究者が関心をもち、解剖、発生、組織学的な研究を通して近縁と考えられる分類群との比較を行ってきたが、その系統的位置について結論はまだ得られていない。
