An American film (made in 1969). A so-called "cult movie" that was deified as a symbol of the counterculture of the late 1960s, which was characterized by rock music, drugs, hippies, and the anti-Vietnam War movement. This groundbreaking coming-of-age film starring Peter Fonda follows the motorcycle film Wild Angels (1966) and the LSD film Daylight (1967), which were testaments to rebellious youth. It was produced independently by Fonda, who also produced the film, director and co-star Dennis Hopper (who appeared in Rebel Without a Cause and the motorcycle film Hell's Angels 2 (1967)), and Bert Schneider, who joined the production from the independent production company BBS, using all the money they had.
