Tazawa [Hot Springs] - Tazawa

Japanese: 田沢[温泉] - たざわ

This hot spring is located in Aoki Village, Chiisagata County, central Nagano Prefecture. It is about 17km west of Ueda Station on the Shinano Railway (formerly the Shinetsu Main Line), a 40-minute bus ride away, in a valley at the foot of Mount Jukan (1,284m). The spring is a hydrogen sulfide spring with a temperature of 40°C. It is also known by names such as Harami-yu, Komochi-yu, and Uchi-yu, and is said to have the miraculous power of granting children. There are documents showing that it has been run by the Ueda Domain since the early modern period, and it still retains the atmosphere of an old-fashioned hot spring resort. Nearby are the stone Buddha statues at Shunara Pass and the ruins of Komayumi Castle.

長野県中部，小県（ちいさがた）郡青木村にある温泉。しなの鉄道(旧信越本線)上田駅から西方約17km，バスで40分，十観山(1284m)山麓の谷間にある。泉質は硫化水素泉，泉温40℃。孕（はらみ）湯，子持湯，有乳（うち）湯などの名もあり，子さずけの霊験ありとされた。近世初期から上田藩が経営してきたことを示す資料もあり，現在も昔ながらの湯治場の雰囲気をとどめる。付近には修那羅（しゆなら）峠の石仏，子檀嶺（こまゆみ）城跡などがある。
