A former town in Mitoyo County in western Kagawa Prefecture. Comprised of the Misaki Peninsula, Awashima Island, and Shishi Island, the main settlement is the fishing port at the base of the peninsula, where seafood is processed and there are lumber, chemical, and shipbuilding factories. Flower production is thriving, and seaweed and yellowtail are cultivated, and sardines, mackerel, and sea bream are landed. The Yosan Line runs through the town. In January 2006, it was incorporated as a city by merging with the towns of Takase, Yamamoto, Mino, Toyonaka, Nio, and Zaita in Mitoyo County to form Mitoyo City. Area: 31.08 km2 . 香川県西部,三豊郡の旧町。三崎半島と粟島,志々(しし)島からなり,主集落は半島基部の漁港で,水産加工が行われ,木材,化学,造船の工場がある。花卉(かき)の生産が盛んで,ノリ,ハマチなどの養殖を行い,イワシ,サバ,タイなどを水揚げする。予讃線が通じる。2006年1月,三豊郡高瀬町,山本町,三野町,豊中町,仁尾町,財田町と合併し市制,三豊市となる。31.08km2。1万5574人(2003)。
