Maki [town] - Maki
This old town occupies the central-western part of the Echigo Plain in Nishikanbara County, Niigata Prefecture. It is a rice paddy area including the Yoroigata reclaimed land, which was reclaimed in 1966, and Maki, in the center, where the Echigo Line runs, is a rice distribution center. Kakutahama on the Japan Coast was the birthplace of Echigo poison antidote peddlers. The Hokuriku Expressway runs through it. The Kakutayama area in the west belongs to the Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Quasi-National Park. It was incorporated into Niigata City in October 2005. 76.14 km2 . Population: 29,936 (2003).

新潟県西蒲原(にしかんばら)郡,越後平野中西部を占める旧町。1966年干拓が終わった鎧(よろい)潟干拓地を含む水田地帯で,越後線が通じる中心の巻は米の集散地。日本海岸の角田浜は越後毒消し行商の出身地であった。北陸自動車道が通じる。西の角田山一帯は佐渡弥彦米山国定公園に属する。2005年10月新潟市へ編入。76.14km2。2万9936人(2003)。
