Japanese: アカガエル(赤蛙) - アカガエル

A general term for frogs of the Ranidae family. In general, it often refers to red-bodied frogs such as the Japanese brown frog and mountain brown frog. The Ranidae family is a group with typical frog shapes such as the Japanese brown frog, Japanese brown frog, and marsh frog, and there are about 44 genera and 625 species distributed throughout the world, but there are few species in Australia and South America. Most are terrestrial, living in grasslands or forests near water. They have excellent jumping ability and, as can be seen in the Japanese brown frog, they hide in grasslands where they can escape into the water in one leap.

アカガエル科Ranidaeのカエルの総称。一般にはこのうち日本産のニホンアカガエル，ヤマアカガエルなど体色の赤いカエルを指すことも多い。アカガエル科は日本産のトノサマガエル，ニホンアカガエル，ヌマガエルなど典型的なカエルの形態をしたグループで，全世界に約44属，625種が広く分布するが，オーストラリア，南アメリカには種類が少ない。大半が水辺の草むらや森林にすむ地上性。ジャンプ力に優れ，トノサマガエルに見られるように，ひと跳びで水中に逃れられる草むらなどに潜む。
