In the mid-modern period, the center of kyoka poetry shifted to Osaka, and kyoka poetry became popular in earnest. Nagata Teiryu, a confectioner in front of the Mido temple in Osaka, had all members of his family who practiced kyoka poetry. He gained popularity for his popular style of poetry and had 3,000 disciples. Other people who followed Teiryu's footsteps included Ritsukatei Bokutan, Ippontei Fuyouka, and Kontonken Kunimaru from Osaka, Akutagawa Sadasa from Hiroshima, Akizonosai Beito from Nagoya, Nagataan Kiritsu, Chiga from Goshu Hachiman, and Shinoda Kurii from Kyoto. At that time, Kyoto was also home to the nobles Fengshuiken Shiratama (Ogimachi Kinmichi), Shizenken Donzen, and Kyunyokan Donei. *Some of the terminology used in reference to "Nagataan Soritsu" is listed below.
