Transit of the Sun

Japanese: 太陽面通過 - たいようめんつうか
Transit of the Sun
Also called a solar transit. When the inner planets (Mercury, Venus) are at inferior conjunction and their ecliptic latitudes coincide, they appear to pass over the surface of the Sun as small sunspots. This is called a solar transit, and occurs on average once every 7.5 years for Mercury, but is extremely rare for Venus, having not occurred since 1874 and 1882, and not until 2004.
