Isidor
Around 1385 - 1464
Metropolitan of Moscow. Greek. Humanist who promoted union with the Church of Rome in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Also known as Isidore. Active as a unionist at the Council of Ferrara and Florence, he proclaimed the union of the Russian Church with the Church of Rome in Moscow in 1441. However, he was imprisoned and deposed by Grand Prince Vasily II of Moscow, who opposed the union. He escaped and worked to unite the Orthodox Church in Poland, and later served as papal nuncio to Constantinople, which was on the verge of falling.

モスクワ府主教。ギリシア人。東方正教会にあってローマ教会との合同を推進した人文主義者。イシドロスともいう。フェラーラ・フィレンツェ公会議で合同派として活動し,1441年,モスクワでロシア教会のローマ教会との合同を宣言した。しかしそれに反対するモスクワ大公ワシーリー2世によって投獄,罷免された。脱走してポーランドの正教会の合同工作に当たり,のち教皇使節として陥落寸前のコンスタンティノープルに赴任した。
