...In 1891, the Consumers' League was formed in New York City, and in 1898, the National Consumers' League was founded, which actively promoted the improvement of food quality. This was the earliest example of a non-cooperative consumer movement that was fully organized. In 1929, the Consumers' Research Institute was established, which began to provide the results of its own product tests. In 1936, it separated from the Consumers' Union (CU), and its monthly product test magazine, Consumer Reports, exceeded one million copies after World War II. Inspired by the success of the CU, the British Consumers' Association was born in 1957 to carry out similar activities, and France, West Germany, and other countries followed suit. ...
