Choi Hyun
1907‐82
A soldier and politician of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Born in Hunchun County, Manchuria, as the son of an independence army soldier, he consistently participated in the anti-Japanese partisan struggle in the Jiandao region from 1932 onwards. Even after the main force was transferred to Soviet territory in 1940, he remained and continued to be active in small units until liberation. As the oldest active soldier, he served as Minister of National Security from 1968 onwards, Minister of the People's Armed Forces Department of the Executive Council from 1972 to 1976, and Vice Chairman of the National Defense Commission from 1977 onwards. He has written a simple autobiography, "Beyond the Paektu Mountains." [Kajimura Hideki]

朝鮮民主主義人民共和国の軍人,政治家。旧満州琿春県で独立軍軍人の子として生まれ,1932年以降一貫して間島地方で抗日パルチザン闘争に参加。40年に主力がソ連領に移動した後も,踏みとどまって小部隊活動を続けながら解放を迎えた。現役軍人の最長老として68年以降民族保衛相,72‐76年政務院人民武力部長,77年以後国防委員会副委員長の地位にあった。素朴な筆致の自伝《白頭の山なみを越えて》がある。【梶村 秀樹】
