A colored painting with red as the main color. In the broad sense, it is pottery with a painted finish, and is also called "colored painting." In China, it is called "five colors." The glazed surface of a piece of pottery that has been glazed and fired is painted with red, green, black, yellow, and other colors, and then fired again at a low temperature (around 700-850°C). Gold and silver are fired at an even lower temperature. In China, it was first made at the Cizhou kiln in northern China during the Jin dynasty. During the Yuan dynasty, works with red and green colors applied to white porcelain appeared at the Jingdezhen kiln, and colorful painted works continued to be fired after the Ming dynasty. Some of the more distinctive works are the "kinrande," "wanli akae," and "tenkei akae" from the Jiajing period. The "old akae" favored by Japanese tea masters is said to have been made at the Jingdezhen folk kiln around the Shotoku and Jiajing periods. In the late Ming dynasty, the Shangzhou kilns in Fujian Province produced large plates and bowls called "Gosu Akae" (red-glazed pottery), which were exported in large quantities overseas. In Japan, the technique began in the 1640s with Imari ware, and in the mid-17th century, Nonomura Ninsei perfected colored decoration of pottery in Kyoto. The technique of red-glazed pottery did not develop in the Korean peninsula. → Related items Annan ware | Eiraku Conservation | Okuda Eisen | Gosu-de | Sakaida Kakiemon | Himeya ware Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
