Daijosai - Daijosai

Japanese:
Daijosai - Daijosai
〘Noun〙① The first Niiname festival held after the Emperor ascends to the throne. It is a once-in-a-lifetime ceremony in which the Emperor himself offers the newly harvested grains of that year to his ancestor Amaterasu Omikami and all the other gods of heaven and earth. The new grains used in the festival are offered from the Yuki and Suki lands, which have been determined in advance by divination , and on the night of the festival, the Emperor offers them to the gods and eats them himself at the Yukiden and Sukiden dens of the newly constructed Daijokyu Palace. Because it is always held after the Emperor ascends to the throne, it is also called the Enso Daijosai, and because it is a once-in-a-lifetime Niiname, it is also called O-niiname . The ceremony begins on the day of the Lower Rabbit in November (or the Middle Rabbit if there are three Rabbits ) if the enthronement took place before July, or the following year if it took place after August, or after dark if the enthronement took place after dark. It continues for four days, including the Yuki-setsue on the Day of the Dragon, the Shuki-setsue on the Day of the Snake, and the Toyome-setsue on the Day of the Horse. After the Day of the Dragon, the ceremony is a banquet held with the ministers. It was discontinued after Emperor Go-Kashiwabara, and was revived during the reign of Emperor Higashiyama, but was not held during the reign of Emperor Nakamikado, and was revived during the reign of Emperor Sakuramachi, where it has continued to this day. Daijoe . Oonie Festival. [Season: Winter] [Ritual (872)] ② = Shinjosai (Niiname-sai) ※Ryōshūkai (868) Shinto: "Shuyun. Shimo U Daijōsai. <Omitted> Every year, every generation, Daijōsai is held. Also, a festival can be held on this day. However, every generation has a Daijōsai. It is not possible to hold a Daijōsai every year."
