Taishogoto - Taishogoto

Japanese:
Taishogoto - Taishogoto
It is more like a steel guitar than a koto. It was created in 1912 (Taisho 1) by Morita Goro, an inventor and musician in Nagoya. It has a body about 60 cm long and 12-15 cm wide, with two metal strings stretched over it, and keys similar to those on a typewriter. It is played by pressing the keys with the left hand and plucking the strings with a pick held in the right hand. It became extremely popular due to its ease of playing, low price, active promotion such as demonstration performances in stores and impromptu lessons, and the trend at the time when owning an instrument was a symbol of wealth. It went into a temporary slump after the 1930s, but became popular again with the so-called Koga Melodies of Koga Masao. In addition to solo performances, ensembles with instruments of different ranges such as soprano and alto are also popular. With a mournful tone, it is used to play popular songs, folk songs, and Western music. Electronic taishokotos are now also manufactured.
