Extender pigment - Extender pigment

A white pigment that has a low refractive index, hiding power (the ability of a pigment or paint to completely hide a black or white base), and coloring power, and becomes transparent or translucent when kneaded with a vehicle, but is added to the vehicle as an extender to improve fluidity, strength, or optical properties. Representative examples include calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, and alumina white.

屈折率、隠蔽(いんぺい)力（顔料、塗料が黒白の下地を完全に隠す性質）、着色力が小さく、展色剤と練り合わすと透明または半透明となるが、展色剤中に増量剤として加えられ、流動性、強度あるいは光学的性質の改善のために用いられる白色顔料をいう。炭酸カルシウム、硫酸バリウム、アルミナホワイトなどが代表的である。
