A perennial plant of the Rosaceae family. Although the genus is distributed throughout the temperate and cold zones of the Northern Hemisphere and the Andes, this species is commonly found in mountain forests throughout Japan. It grows to a height of 30-60cm and is basal. The leaves are pinnate and somewhat similar to those of a radish. From early summer to summer, it produces several yellow flowers about 1cm in diameter at the top of the stem, with five petals and numerous stamens and pistils.
