Invitation rope - Kanjozuna

...Rope ropes, including shimenawa and yokozuna ropes, are used as markers to indicate the boundary between inside and outside and sacred areas, and to keep out impurity and filth. During the New Year, there is an event called the "Tsunagake Festival," where large ropes are hung at the entrances and boundaries of villages to prevent epidemics and disasters from entering the village, and to pray for peace in the village for the year. In Nara, these ropes are called "kanjozuna," and are made to look like snakes or male and female genitals, or two ropes, one male and one female, to expel evil. Snake-shaped ropes are also pulled around the village, and evil spirits are entrusted to them and thrown into the river, sea, or village border, and ropes are also used in events where tug-of-war is used to predict the will of the gods and the harvest....

…綱はしめ縄や横綱の綱も含めて標（しめ）として内と外の境や神域を表示し不浄や穢を隔離するところから，正月には〈綱掛け祭〉といって大綱を村の出入口や境にかけ悪疫や災厄が村に侵入するのを防ぎ，村の一年の平安を祈願する行事がある。奈良ではこの綱を〈勧請綱（かんじようづな）〉といい，蛇形や男女の性器に模したり，雌雄2本に作ったりして邪悪なものを排除する。また蛇形の綱を村のまわりを引いてまわり，これに邪悪なものを託して川や海，村境に捨てたり，綱引きで神意や作柄を占う行事にも綱が登場する。…
